Following its extremely successful debut year, which saw the enrolment of 121 students and graduates of Drama Schools and Theatre Academies from 11 countries, the Epidaurus Lyceum – International Summer School of Ancient Drama will be held again this year, this time split into two two-week cycles (2 – 16 July and 18 July – 1 August).

Epidaurus Lyceum is an educational institution of the Athens & Epidaurus Festival, realized under the auspices and support of the Hellenic Ministry of Culture and Sports, in collaboration with the Theatre Studies Department of the University of the Peloponnese and the support of the Municipality of Epidaurus.

This year’s Epidaurus theme, Polis and the Citizen, will pervade the Lyceum’s programme of studies and events. The Lyceum’s workshops will focus on the significance of the Chorus in ancient Greek drama as an aspect that has been crucial in the development of the notion of the citizen.

The 2018 teaching staff includes the following: Maria Shmaevich, actor, director and biomechanics expert at the famed Russian institute GITIS; Marta Górnicka, director and founder of the avantgarde group Chorus of Women; Pichet Klunchun, award-winning dancer and choreographer from Thailand; Xu Jiali, actor and professor of Chinese opera at the Shanghai Theatre Academy; Enrico Bonavera, actor of Piccolo Teatro in Milan; Dennis Hilton-Reid, American director and acting coach; Sanjoy Ganguly, founder of the most influential social-political theatre network in India; Lilo Baur, actor, director and collaborator of Théâtre de Complicité; Griffón Dance Company (Ioanna Portolou, Yannis Nikolaidis, Cecil Mikroutsikou, Anthony Palaskas), and director Georgia Mavragani, to name but a few.

The Lyceum is certified by the University of the Peloponnese with ECST credits.
