Buika in concert
Mi Niña Lola
A voice for lovers of quality. A rhythmic, rasping, smoky, deep African voice expressing itself through flamenco. Born in Spain to Guinean immigrant parents, Buika is the new star of a musical genre which could only be called ‘Afro-flamenco’ – a genre which has less to do with experiments in fusion than with flamenco waking up to its African roots. And that’s why Buika’s star is in the ascendant now: now that flamenco is renewing itself by drawing on its roots, its rich and turbulent history, the cultures it has touched, and the creative ferment from which it has emerged reborn so often down the centuries. Together, Buika’s African voice and flamenco’s evocative sound make for a blend with hints of jazz, Soul, Rumba and Latin. A fresh, original, seductive sound. A sound for today!
