Água (2001), a hymn to beauty and pleasure, brings on stage what Pina Bausch feels for Brazil—for Rio, São Paolo and Bahia. The work belongs to the most optimistic and dancerly period in the career of the great choreographer who decided in 1989 to dedicate herself to the “Schrift of wandering”, adding another great city to her travelogue each time. Companions along the way, her exceptional dancers—the celebrated Tanztheater Wuppertal, which continues to make history by distilling the essence of experience into dance.
