The building hosting the Apo Michanis (Ex Machina) Theatre was built in 1930s and was initially functioning as a factory of hardware. In mid 1990s, it was bought by the actors Aspasia Kralli and Christos Valavanidis. While keeping its architectural style intact, the building was transformed to a theatre in accordance with the trends during this period for developing theatrical venues at erstwhile industrial sites, allowing artistic experimentation and breaking the limits between stage and stalls. The Apo Michanis (Ex Machina) presented several popular performances the last few years, including Pentheus Suffering and Beast on the Moon. It also hosted the Experimental Stage of the National Theatre the last two years. In September 2008, the theatre was rented to the Theatre Company Syn, Epi (+,Χ) and following intensive works of full refurbishing has been transformed to a contemporary and ergonomical venue of high aesthetics.
