Paul Taylor has been active on the dance scene for half a century, since 1952, producing works which have left their mark on the history of American modern dance and yet retaining his youthful spirit and creativity intact. His choreographies are sometimes lyrical and romantic, sometimes trenchantly humorous in their biting satire of 20th-century America. His unique melding of disparate influences exudes a stylistic simplicity and communicational immediacy. Profoundly musical, he is often drawn to widely varying musical styles and eras – ranging from Bach to Piazzolla – for inspiration. Esplanade, Piazzolla Caldera and Promethean Fire all mark turning points in Taylor’s long career of tireless creativity [An.K.].
The Paul Taylor Dance Company wishes to express its sincere appreciation to The Starr Foundation for its generous support of the Company’s 2008 international touring.
Additional support is provided by the National Endowment for the Arts, the New York State Council on the Arts, a State agency, and the Board of Directors and donors of the Paul Taylor Dance Foundation, Inc.
