A unique opportunity to engage with the work and ideas of renowned French composer Pierre Jodlowski through an open masterclass and a public discussion on contemporary music and its role today.
Part A: Masterclass with Pierre Jodlowski
12:00 – New Stage, Athens Conservatoire
Pierre Jodlowski, joined by percussionist Theo Vazakas, will lead an open masterclass centered around Time & Money – a piece for solo percussion and electronics. The composer will delve into the technical as well as the conceptual aspects of the work, exploring the balance between acoustic instruments and electronic media (both sonic and visual), as well as the inherent theatricality of the performer’s movements.
Drawing from this piece, Jodlowski will share his creative process, how he blends traditional composition with technology and the evolving role of the performer in contemporary music.
This masterclass is addressed to music students, professional musicians, composers, artists interested in the intersection of technology and the arts, and anyone curious to understand the work of one of France’s leading contemporary composers.
Part B: Discussion with Pierre Jodlowski
15:00 – New Stage, Athens Conservatoire
Moderator: Stavros Gasparatos (composer, curator of Subset Festival)
Where does contemporary music stand today? What tools do today’s composers and performers have at their disposal? How can this music expand its audience, and what are the ways to ensure that the contemporary music scene remains vibrant and sustainable in the future?
In this discussion, Pierre Jodlowski will join composer and curator Stavros Gasparatos and Nikos Tsouchlos, President of the Board of Directors of the Athens Conservatoire. Together with the audience, they will reflect on the identity, future, and challenges of contemporary music- making.
