As part of its preparations for the 2027 artistic programme, the Athens Epidaurus Festival invites independent artists, artistic groups, cultural organisations, and arts institutions to submit proposals for new productions and artistic projects. Proposals may be submitted exclusively by completing the online application form available on the Festival website.
Submission period: 5 August – 15 September 2026 (18:00 EEST)
The Artistic Directorate of the Athens Epidaurus Festival is particularly interested in proposals grounded in artistic research and distinguished by an innovative approach to conception, dramaturgy, stage language, aesthetic direction, subject matter, methodology, performance practice, and the exploration of theatricality in all its manifold forms. It actively encourages collaborations among artists, companies, and organisations, seeking works that respond creatively – through the means of Αrt – to the defining questions of our time and of our shared human experience.
The Festival remains steadfast in its commitment to the creation of original, distinctive, and exclusive artistic works. It aspires to offer a fertile environment for artistic creativity, one that remains in constant dialogue with contemporary society while supporting artists and, wherever possible, providing the conditions they need to develop their work freely and without constraint. The Festival, therefore, welcomes proposals that introduce new ideas and artistic formats, new models of collaboration, and new ways of reimagining the relationship between performance and audience.
The Athens Epidaurus Festival seeks to be a flourishing garden of unique artistic works – a place where audiences and artists alike encounter exquisite moments of artistic creation from Greece and across the world.
Submission of the application form constitutes acceptance of the following terms and conditions:
- Proposed productions must not have been previously presented in Greece.
- Submission of a proposal does not constitute acceptance into the Athens Epidaurus Festival programme.
- The Festival’s Artistic Directorate is under no obligation to provide feedback or justification regarding proposals that are not selected.
- All information submitted with the application is considered binding. The Artistic Directorate reserves the right to reconsider a proposal should any of its essential elements change after submission (including, but not limited to, changes to lead performers or key creative collaborators, substantial alterations to the original artistic concept, or significant deviations from the submitted budget).

Official Athens Epidaurus Festival venues
As the iconic Odeon of Herodes Atticus remains unavailable due to ongoing restoration works, the Festival’s programme currently materialises across the following official venues:- Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus
- Little Theatre of Ancient Epidaurus
- Peiraios 260 (multiple performance spaces of varying capacities)
- Other venues
Through strategic partnerships with leading cultural institutions, alongside the continuous exploration and activation of new performance spaces, the Festival also presents productions at a range of alternative venues, selected in response to the artistic nature and technical requirements of each project. These may include, among others, Megaron – The Athens Concert Hall, the Lycabettus Municipal Theatre, and the Athens Conservatoire, while additional specially selected venues may also be considered.
Where appropriate, the Festival may encourage proposals conceived in situ, whenever a site-specific approach is deemed integral to the artistic vision of the work.
- PRODUCTIONS
- Peiraios 260: Priority will be given to proposals in Theatre, Dance, Contemporary Music, and other forms of a performative orientation.
- Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus: The Festival welcomes proposals centred primarily on Ancient Drama, while remaining open to works inspired by the epic corpus or, more broadly, by themes and narratives drawn from classical antiquity.
- Little Theatre of Ancient Epidaurus: The Festival welcomes proposals for small-scale productions, artistic projects, and experimental initiatives by emerging or independent companies and ensembles, designed for modest budgets and simple, flexible technical requirements. Particular consideration will be given to projects that engage creatively with the distinctive character of the venue, its surrounding landscape, or the town itself. Musical dramaturgies and other specialised artistic approaches are especially encouraged.
(The Festival reserves the right to recommend the Little Theatre of Ancient Epidaurus as a more appropriate venue for any proposal, in accordance with its overall artistic programming.)
