The Athens Epidaurus Festival bids a sorrowful farewell to Robert Wilson, one of the most influential contemporary artists, whose dynamic career maintained its momentum for over 50 years.
A remarkable director of Theatre and Opera, as well as a writer, set designer, and visual artist, Wilson collaborated with Athens Epidaurus Festival, on a number of iconic productions that captivated Greek audiences and left a lasting mark on the country’s theatrical landscape. These included: Monsters of Grace with music by Philip Glass (Peiraios 260, 1999), Quartet (Olympia Theatre, 2007), The Old Woman (Stegi, 2013), Letter to a Man (Stegi, 2017), and Oedipus (Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus, 2019).
Founder of The Watermill Center in New York, Wilson leaves behind a profound legacy in the performing arts through his unparalleled directorial and visual vision — an indelible imprint that changed the way we perceive theatre.
