Municipal and Regional Theatre of Kozani-Yiannis Karachisaridis
Based on the novel Don Quixote by Cervantes
The Ingenious Hidalgo Don Quixote de la Mancha (1605-1615) by Miguel de Cervantes is one of the landmarks in the history of European literature. The legendary romantic hero seeks adventure – just like the heroes of his favourite chivalric novels – accompanied by his level-headed squire, Sancho Panza.
Cervante’s real life itself reads almost like a novel: he lost his left arm in the Battle of Lepanto, was captured by pirates, he experienced slavery, escape and hunger.
The Athens Festival plays host to a regional theatre group, headed by two popular actors (Giorgos Kimoulis, Dimitris Piatas), which attempts to link the writer’s tumultuous life with the adventures of his hero.
