Filiatro Theatre Company – Vico Nahmias
The Words of Cassandra
Seeking new ways of approaching tragedy, Vico Nahmia is experimenting by expanding an exceptional moment in ancient drama: Cassandra’s soliloquy from Agamemnon (part of the Oresteia Trilogy) by Aeschylus.
Cassandra, the daughter of Priam, was given the gift of prophecy by Apollo, but was also cursed never to be believed. Now part of Agamemnon’s war spoils, she foresees both the hero’s death and her own, encapsulating the horrors of the House of Atreus while the chorus offers her its sympathy.
The project incorporates witness accounts, poems and songs concerned with similar fateful moments.
