Staged here by Peter Stein are the bare truths at the core of human nature as they rise to the surface in the tragic novel penned by Dostoyevsky, Russia’s ‘intellectual of the proletariat’.


In a mighty eight-hour production, the great German director and his Italian cast present the passions and the corruption of an era in crisis, posing ever-relevant questions about politics, religion, the role of the intellect and the concept of moral obligation.


A "polyphony of Evil", Demons (1872) is driven by Stavrogin, that mesmerizing "monophonic force of nature".
