Epoche Theatre 20.06 – Vassilis Papavassiliou
The Fortune Hunter…based on Chourmouzis
It would be hard to find a director and actor more perfectly suited to update the Fortune-seeker (1835) and to play its lead role than Vassilis Papavasileiou.
Born in Constantinople, Michael Chourmouzis fought in the Greek War of Independence before embarking on an authorial and political career in which he fulminated against the rule of the nation’s imported German King Otto, and against abuses of power by Greeks and foreigners alike. Basing their production on this “landmark work of the modern Greek drama”, the Epochi 20.06 theatre company have focused their attentions on the “fortune-seeker who runs like a thread through the history of this land”.
