Richard Wagner, The flying Dutchman


The last concert of the Greek National Opera on Richard Wagner's "The flying Dutchman", initially scheduled for 13 June at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus, is cancelled.



Those who bought tickers for the concert can get their refund from Friday 14 June, at the Greek Festival's Box Office (Panepistimiou 39, inside the Pesmazoglou Arcade – Call center: +30 210 3272 000) and the Box Office of the Greek National Opera (Olympia Theatre, Akadimias 59, Athens).

In celebration of the 200th anniversary of Wagner’s birth, the Greek National Opera presents The Flying Dutchman, a work that marked a shift in the composer’s career towards new operatic styles. At the heart of the opera is the redemption of a man – the accursed, sea-tossed Dutchman – through the eternal constancy vowed to him by a woman, the young Senta. The thrilling and intense music conjures up both the power of nature, which dominates the work, and other supernatural forces, all of which are overcome in the end by love.
