A team of theatre researchers, directors, actors and instructors from the Shanghai Theatre Academy will visit Argolis on 5/7, in the framework of the Educating International Audiences in Ancient Drama programme, running parallel to Athens & Epidaurus Festival. Visitors will attend selected Festival performances and will participate in discussions and lectures held specifically for the members of the Academy.
Following their morning visit at the archaeological site of Mycenae, where they will be guided by Georgina Kakoudaki, Head of Epidaurus Lyceum and co-curator for educational programmes of Athens & Epidaurus Festival, visitors will attend two lectures, open to the public and conducted in English, at the Lygourio Cultural Centre:
17:30: A lecture by Gong Baorong, vice president of Shanghai Theatre Academy, entitled ‘Chinese theatre and its roots’
19:00: A lecture by Maria Mikedaki, assistant professor at the Department of Theatre Studies, University of the Peloponnese, entitled ‘Architecture and opsis of ancient Greek theatre: The case of the theatre of Asklepieion at Epidaurus’
Xu Jiali, professor at the Shanghai Theatre Academy, will teach at Cycle B of Epidaurus Lyceum (18 July – 1 August), training young drama students and graduates in Chinese opera.
