Prague Quadrennial of Performance Design and Space - PQ

A Rare Gathering
The Greek participation in the largest international exhibition of new artistic creation in theatre, dance, opera and performance

60 Greek artists and 10 university departments will be attending the Prague Quadrennial of Performance Design and Space (PQ).

PQ is the largest international exhibition showcasing new artistic creation in Theatre, Dance, Opera, Performance and their combined and hybrid versions, using scenography and performance design as a vehicle.

This year our country has the largest participation in PQ so far, being supported by the Ministry of Culture and Sports and implemented by the Athens Epidaurus Festival. The initiative belongs to the Greek set designers and costume designers, with the participation of the relevant schools and workshops.

The PQ has been held every four years since 1967 and is the world’s most important exhibition for the performing arts.

Greece has been represented six times (1991, 1995, 2003, 2003, 2007, 2011, 2015), winning important awards and distinctions. The aim of the Greek representation at PQ23 is the expanded promotion of contemporary scenography – costume design in Greece, with the presentation of works from the last six years. Participants include creators from a wide range of performing arts from different artistic generations.

National participation in PQ23 is developed in four strands:

  • Exhibition of Countries and Regions, with the participation of 60 artists and 57 works, covering the entire spectrum of performing arts. Curatorial team: Antonis Volanakis, Konstantinos Zamanis, Maria Konomi, Eva Nathena, Sofia Pantouvaki, Andreas Skourtis.

  • Student Exhibition, with the collaboration of 10 University Departments and the participation of more than 350 students. Curators: Lila Karakosta, Maria Konomi.

  • Fragments II, with the presentation of the work of Dimitra Kaisari. Curator: Sofia Pantouvaki.

  • Performance Space, aiming to highlight the management and use of the spaces of Peiraios 260 during the pandemic. Curators: Konstantinos Zamanis, Andreas Skourtis.

On Friday, June 9, at the exhibition hall in building H13, the official Greek Reception (Greece-day) will take place, which will be attended by the curators, the Ambassador of Greece to the Czech Republic, as well as representatives of the Athens Epidaurus Festival.
