Athens State Orchestra / Opera Gala

Conducted by Vassilis Christopoulos

“Reborn” after 2,300 years of silence, the theatre of Ancient Messene is preparing to celebrate the opening of its doors to the public. On 3 August 2013, it will welcome its visitors with a splendid opera gala. The human voice will ring out in the ancient theatre once again as two artists of international repute – Cellia Costea and Dimitri Platanias – perform arias from Verdi and Puccini. The Athens State Orchestra will be conducted by Vassilis Christopoulos. This unique event was made possible by Diazoma – Citizens for the Ancient Theatres, the Athens Festival, the Athens State Orchestra, the Peloponnese Region, the Municipality of Messini, the 38th Ephorate of Antiquities, and the Society of Messenian Archaeological Studies.
