Elias Andriopoulos

From the Letters to Makrygiannis to the Odes of Andreas Kalvos

From the Letters to Makrygiannis to Elytis’ Orientations and the Odes of Andreas Kalvos, Elias Andriopoulos’ choices as a composer have shared roots in the poetic stone, the Greek rock. This is why the Little Theatre of Ancient Epidaurus is perhaps the most suitable venue of all for songs that have travelled from the fight for and the restitution of Greek democracy in 1974 to Brussels and Oxford. A quartet (piano, violin, cello and mandolin) and classically-trained voices are called upon to strike a balance between the epic style and the lyricism of poetry set to music.
