In the Footsteps of Democracy
A walk through ancient Athens
A democracy-themed stroll throughout the historic centre of ancient Athens. An archaeologist will guide the audience through the Ancient Agora, starting at the Stoa of Attalos and going all the way to the Temple of Hephaestus (Thiseio). In this walking tour, several texts regarding crucial historical moments of Democracy will be read in historically relevant locations.
Guided tour in Greek on 12/06 by archaeology professor Panos Valavanis and in English on 20/06 by archaeology professor Dimitris Plantzos.
The audience is required to purchase an 8€ ticket from the Greek archaeological service for admission to the Ancient Agora.
Starting point: Ancient Agora entrance, Adrianou street.

the organizations and citizens Network for the historic centre of athens and the Εlliniki Etairia - Society for the Environment and cultural heritage collaborate with the Athens festival to plan a series of cultural events, called "Athens: sites of Memory" to be held at historic neighbourhoods of the city. the goal of these events is to preserve the historic memory of neighbourhoods through artistic performances linked to specific parts of the city and their past, highlighting the continuity of athens from ancient times to the present. Events will include a walking tour in Ancient Agora, in the footsteps of Athenian democracy, a cultural stroll through the historic hills of Αthens, a philosophy walk at the site of Plato's Academy (Akadimia Platonos), and a Karagiozis shadow theatre in Plaka, a neighbourhood historically linked to shadow plays.
The Organizations and Citizens Network for the Historic Centre of Athens is the result of an initiative of residents of the historic centre of Athens, who in July 2014 contacted district organizations to confront the drop in the quality of life in their area. This initiative was met with enthusiasm. Groups of volunteering experts from various fields and other volunteers are currently working together to improve the quality of life in the most historic city in Europe. Participants include: Geitonia-Cultural Association of Exarcheia-Neapolis, Cultural and Sports Club "The Ardittos," Plaka Residents' Initiative Committee, Ano Petralona Citizens' Movement, Kolonaki Citizens' Movement, Philopappos Citizens' Movement, Alexander the Great (Gazi-Kerameikos-Rouf), PEZI Movement, Athenian Association, "Makrigiannis" Cultural Association, Association of Exarcheia Citizens and Professionals, Thiseio Citizens' Association Coordinated by the Elliniki Etairia - Society for the Environment and Cultural Heritage
