The heart-rending masterpiece of German Romanticism, a cornerstone of the Lieder repertoire, masterfully re-interpreted in Hans Zender’s postmodern and deeply expressive transcription for chamber ensemble (1993), which in turn provides the raw material for a contemporary multimedia performance. All this under the baton of Teodor Currentzis, the star conductor who, having determinedly charted a musical course all his own, heads the Kyklos Ensemble for the first time. Though relatively new, the orchestra, which brings together the very finest musicians working in Greece, has already blazed an extremely broad-ranging musical trail.
