Le Cercle de l’ Harmonie-Jeremie Rhorer

Works by Mozart

For the Athens Festival 2009, Le Cercle de l’Harmonie – under its founder and conductor Jérémie Rhorer – has chosen to perform three works into which Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart poured his energies in the last months of his life: the overture to The Magic Flute (Die Zauberflöte), in which Mozart set to music his ideas on society and did so in his native language German (which was rare, since the great majority of his operas were in Italian); then Concerto for Clarinet  which Alfred Einstein described as one of the most beautiful examples of Mozart’s “supreme naivety”; and finally Requiem, an unfinished work referencing the composer’s own impending death.
