Marta Sebestyen in concert

I see the gates of Heaven being open  Religious and secular songs from the world

Marta Sebestyen remained one of Hungary’s best-kept secrets for many years. Much admired by her countrymen for her role in saving a musical past which was in real danger of sinking into oblivion, she performs, researches and represents Hungary’s rich heritage of traditional music. Many outside Hungary discovered Sebestyen through the soundtrack of the Oscar-winning English Patient, while she also tours Eastern Europe and the Balkans revealing the lyricism of traditional melodies. Emerging surprisingly from a slender frame and girlish face, the impressive “voice of Hungary” faithfully performs a huge range of songs from different eras. In Sebestyen’s personal musical world, the present is forever hard at work producing a protective shell for the past. Performing in Greece for the first time, she is accompanied by eminent musicians including Kálmán Balogh, the Romany virtuoso of the cymbalo [L.A.].
