Simón Bolivar Youth Orchestra of Venezuela – Gustavo Dudamel
Works by Beethoven, Stravinsky
The Simón Bolívar Youth Orchestra is the fruit of ‘El Sistema’, an important social programme tackling poverty in Venezuela founded by conductor José Antonio Abreu. Its enormous success at encouraging poor children to set up their own orchestras has won international acclaim. The Orchestra, representing the crème de la crème of the ‘system’, is directed by Gustavo Dudamel, the conductor with the rock star temperament who himself rose to prominence through the programme.
Notwithstanding all the above, the orchestra’s concerts are a supremely moving experience.
