Socìetas Raffaello Sanzio – Romeo Castellucci

Purgatorio

The second part of Romeo Castellucci’s trilogy inspired by the Divine Comedy, Purgatorio is enacted on a surreal set which alludes to the formal severity which Dante bestows on this transitional place of waiting and transformation. The dramaturgy – a diptych – hinges on a violent event that leaves an indelible mark on a bourgeois family’s everyday life. Inhabiting the shadow-lands between the literal and the metaphorical, between actuality and the dream, the production employs cinematic techniques to leave the audience unsure what is real and what is not.
