Tribute to Jean Genet’s The Screens
Wednesday 29 July, 18:00-21:00—Athens School of Fine Art (De Chirico Hall)
An iconic work, revealing both the contribution and the personality of one of the key exponents of contemporary literature and drama, Jean Genet’s monumental The Screens is to receive its Greek première 55 years after it was written and 30 years after its author’s death. To mark the occasion, we are organizing a mini-tribute to Jean Genet which attempts an initial appraisal of an extraordinarily complex work which poses both theoretical and practical challenges.
With:
Lina Rosi, Professor of Theatre Studies, Patras University (“A dramaturgical approach of the play”)
Anna Karakatsouli, Professor of Theatre Studies, Athens University (“Social and historical context”)
Damianos Konstandinidis, Director
Andonis Daglidis, Set & costume designer
Moderated by Dimitra Kondylaki, co-curator for Contemporary Greek theatre.
**Our guest Albert Dichy, academic director of the IMEC, co-editor of Genet’s Complete Works at Éditions Gallimard had to cancel his participation to this tribute due to unexpected professional reasons.
