Chorality
Voices in Contemporary Theatre

“I cannot say if it will happen soon, but someday someone will help reinstate that which theatre has lost: the chorus shall once again appear on the stage.”

Vsevolod Meyerhold, 1910

The 3L – Logi Ludi Loci Group (Victor Ardittis, Maria Efstathiadi, Sissy Papathanassiou, Chryssa Prokopaki and Petros Sevastikoglou) presents the first Greek productions of six European theatrical works, all featuring “chorality”.

The term “chorality” refers to the presence, in some form or other, of a “new chorus” in contemporary theatrical writings and staging, particularly over the last two decades. This recent trend explores textual and staged forms, delineating the “peripeteia” of the group on stage. In addition, it brings to the fore attempts to acquire certain forms of collectivity within the desolation of individual solitude.

Two works are performed each day. The productions are as follows:

  • • Sunday 1 July 2007 : Howard Barker - 13 Objects (2003), Ivan Vyrypaev - Oxygen (2003)

  • • Monday 2 July 2007 : Rodrigo Garcia - You Are All Bastards (2002), Koffi Khawule - Misterioso-119 (2005)

  • • Tuesday 3 July 2007 : Fausto Paravidino - Still Life in a Ditch (2002), Rainald Goetz, Jeff Koons (1998)
