From the sharp wit of Euripides Laskaridis to Dimitris Kamarotos’ midnight sonic rite, 26 and 27 June offer a different way of experiencing Epidaurus.
On Friday 26 and Saturday 27 June, the Athens Epidaurus Festival invites audiences on a unique ‘journey’ that begins at the Little Theatre of Ancient Epidaurus and culminates at the Ancient Stadium, which opens to the public for the first time during the night-time hours. Marking the launch of this year’s programme at both the Little Theatre and the Ancient Stadium – the Festival’s newest venue – these two evenings become an invitation to wander through Epidaurus from dusk until well past midnight.
Although the Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus remains silent on these two days, Epidaurus continues to offer occasions for a different kind of artistic exploration. From the biting humour of Euripides Laskaridis to Dimitris Kamarotos’ midnight sonic ritual, 26 and 27 June bring together two distinct venues and two contrasting artistic languages, proposing a nocturnal journey through the Epidaurian landscape.
Euripides Laskaridis – TOURNÉ | Little Theatre of Ancient Epidaurus (21:30)
The evening begins at the Little Theatre of Ancient Epidaurus, where Euripides Laskaridis and OSMOSIS return with TOURNÉ, a tragicomic performance poised between devotion and self-deprecation. Performed by Laskaridis himself, Amalia Kosma, and Efthimios Moschopoulos, the work draws inspiration from the world of summer tours and travelling theatre troupes, with all its contradictions and hardships. Through an acidic sense of humour, the performance excavates facets of contemporary Greek identity and casts a tender gaze on our relationship with antiquity, revealing theatre as an act of perseverance and profound generosity.

Dimitris Kamarotos – (Alceste) Landscape after a Promise | Ancient Stadium of Epidaurus (23:59)
The night continues at the Ancient Stadium of Epidaurus with a post-midnight experience presented as part of the contemporary music cycles C_Music NOW and ‘1-1-1’ (One Composer – One Work – One Actress). A work about those moments when we search for a way to go on. From a point of stillness, from an impasse, towards a path that unfolds before us. Waiting for a promise, for something immaterial capable of transforming the tangible world. A work situated within an archaeological site at the heart of the night, where something insists on being heard. Acoustic and electronic sounds, in complete symbiosis with the voice of Anna Pangalou and a string quintet, trace a rare passage of inner transition through the Epidaurian darkness.
