Berlin’s Schaubühne has always embraced musical and dance theatre as well as drama, and the company reveals its full range in this staging of The Return of Ulysses directed and conducted by David Marton, the Hungarian musical theatre specialist. The production—which draws on Monteverdi’s opera of the same name, but also on a number of other texts—is a collective work in which singers, actors and musicians articulate their non-narrative on-stage version of the Homeric myth.
