The Athens Epidaurus Festival is looking for volunteers to join Korean artist Jaha Koo on stage during his performance Haribo Kimchi, presented on 16 and 17 June at Peiraios 260.

During the performance, Koo invites two individuals to join him at a food stall. Over the course of approximately one hour, he prepares Korean dishes for them to share while they observe the performance unfolding around them through a special screen and answer a few simple personal questions, such as their names, origins or backgrounds, favourite foods, etc.

No prior acting or performance experience is required. Participants are encouraged to behave naturally and refrain from initiating conversations with either the artist or the audience.

Who we are looking for

The Festival is seeking two volunteers and two stand-ins for each performance. People from different cultural backgrounds, as well as individuals with immigrant experience, are strongly encouraged to apply, as diversity is one of the core themes of the work.

Participation is especially welcome from people who love food or recognise its symbolic meaning, notably when tied to memory, roots, and life away from one’s homeland.

Participation requirements

Participants are expected to have a good command of English and feel comfortable engaging in verbal communication. They will be required to remain seated on a stool for approximately one hour and must ensure they are available on their chosen date.

Volunteers will be asked to arrive at the venue one hour before the performance begins in order to receive special instructions from the production team.

Important information regarding food

All food served during the performance is vegetarian, with the exception of the kimchi, which contains fish sauce. The menu includes peanut oil, egg, and raw garlic, and the dishes have a mildly spicy flavour.

Beer (4.5% ABV) and soju (18% ABV) will also be offered. Water will be available as a non-alcoholic alternative.

For safety reasons, individuals with allergies to any of the ingredients mentioned above cannot participate.

Expression of interest

Those interested are invited to send an email to audition@aefestival.gr (subject line: “VOLUNTEERS/ Haribo Kimchi”) by 10 June 2026, indicating the date on which they wish to participate.

Selection will be made on a first-come, first-served basis (according to the time the expression of interest is submitted), provided that all participation requirements are met.

Selected volunteers will be contacted over the phone by the production team, asked to sign a consent form, and provided with detailed instructions regarding their participation.

More information about the performance can be found here.
