“Brothers, the revolution has come…”

Following their explosive The Holy Billy Goat, Aris Biniaris and his associates stage an even more hardcore punk oratorio, this time on a paramount example of anti-materialism, anti-dogmatism and non-conformity: the Greek Revolution of 1821. Moving beyond the idea of nation and blood, they focus on the revolution not as a series of battles and chieftains but instead as a timeless philosophical question, namely, the well-attested desire of human beings to live in freedom or, failing that, to die. Official documents of the National Assemblies, written accounts from 1816-1834, but also texts in opposition to the Revolution are heard and sung in the wildest history lesson you’ve ever attended.
