The Athens Festival welcomes an artist much-loved by Greek audiences, the French-Canadian pianist Alain Lefèvre, who will be performing Edvard Grieg’s ever-popular Piano Concerto, the apogee of lyricism, poeticism and virtuosity.
In the second half of the programme, the Athens State Orchestra under its artistic director, Stefanos Tsialis, will immerse the audience in the introspective, dark, heady world of Gustav Mahler. The Fifth Symphony is a stirring ‘musical novel’ which takes the audience on a long journey from the darkness of the first movement to the triumphant, life-affirming finale.
