Maguy Marin, radical as ever, makes her mark here with darkness, as the title suggests. These are not Chopin’s Nocturnes; instead the images we see on stage contain the night, serving as a dark mirror held up to our personal predicaments. Taking the body and history as their tools, the dancers invade the stage in fits and bursts to pour out pieces of their memory in their native tongues, without translation. “I am Greece,” writes a female Greek dancer on a blackboard, as if making a bitter confession: “It seems nothing is more difficult to share than where we came from.”
