Antonio Ruz, a Spanish dancer and choreographer who has worked alongside some of the biggest names in dance, here daringly and successfully enriches his movement vocabulary with elements from the flamenco tradition. Ojo, the first of his works to be presented to Greek audiences, pulls us into an enigmatic, misty world. Six dancers move in and out of our field of vision, disappearing and reappearing on stage to perform flowing ensemble pieces or explosive solos. The use of flamenco here is not a token gesture: the rhythmic clapping of hands and stamping of feet, the brisque steps and the songs are all embedded in a contemporary context to reveal facets of its multicultural identity.
