dissonART Ensemble
Works by Xenakis, Furrer, Grisey, Christou

For better or for worse, Iannis Xenakis and Jani Christou have come to be viewed as one of those pairs of “opposites” one finds scattered through the history of art. In contrast to Xenakis’ non-psychological ‘objective’ sound-constructions (based on mathematics) and Christou’s magic-religious “metamusic” (rooted in analytical psychology and mysticism), Grisey’s spectral music consciously draws its structures from the nature of sound itself. Thessaloniki’s newly-formed DissonArt ensemble will be our guide through some of the main avant-garde trends of the recent past, directed by Switzerland’s Beat Furrer, whose recent Aria is also included in the programme.
