Elliniki Etairia Society for the Environment and Cultural Heritage – Epidaurus Municipality – Ephorate of Antiquities of Argolida

Greek Paths of Culture

The "Greek Paths of Culture" project of the Elliniki Etairia - Society for the Environment and Cultural Heritage will be launched in Epidaurus in 2017, familiarizing visitors with history, culture, and environment through ancient pathways that used to connect cities and villages, comprising a significant part of the Greek ancestral heritage. Following a careful study and selection of possible routes, these ancient paths will once again be accessible and attractive to visitors, in cooperation with local authorities and residents. The project is expected to rejuvenate local economy, giving visitors the opportunity to discover the culture, traditional products, and overall beauty of Greece.

The event will be launched on Saturday, August 5 at the Ancient Stadium of Epidaurus at 18:00. Speakers will include: L. Koniordou, Greek Minister of Culture and Sports; S. Famellos, Alternate Minister of Environment and Energy; A. Papadimitriou, Director of the Ephorate of Antiquities of Argolida; Vangelis Theodoropoulos, Artistic Director of the Athens & Epidaurus Festival, and others. This unique experience of a one-and-a-half-hour walk along the historic paths around the archaeological site will culminate in the visitors' entrance into the Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus, where they will watch a performance much like ancient theatre-goers did thousands of years ago.
