21 June: Fête de la Musique
Works by Bach, Mussorgsky, Rota
Once again this year, the ERT National Symphony Orchestra will celebrate the Fête de la Musique with a big concert to be held at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus. On 21 June, the Orchestra, conducted by its new artistic director, Anastasios Symeonidis, will present three pieces: Johann Sebastian Bach’s Fantasia and Fugue in G minor, BWV 542 in Dimitris Mitropoulos’ arrangement for orchestra, Nino Rota’s Piano Concerto and Concerto for Orchestra in G major, titled “Piccolo Mondo Antico,” featuring soloist Christos Papageorgiou, and Modest Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition. The ERT National Symphony Orchestra is one of the most celebrated and dynamic symphony orchestras in Greece. Since its inception in 1938, the Orchestra has collaborated with major soloists and conductors from both Greece and abroad, as well as world-famous composers, presenting works by significant artists, conductors, and researchers of classical Greek and international repertoire in the form of recordings, live radio and television broadcasting, and concerts in Athens and regional areas of Greece.
