Filarmonica Della Scala

A tribute to Gustav Mahler

Max Bruch (1838-1920)
Concerto for violin and orchestra no. 1 in G minor, opus 26
Gustav Mahler (1860-1911)
Symphony No. 6 in A minor

In this concert, part of a series marking the centenary of Gustav Mahler’s death, the “La Scala” Philharmonic Orchestra presents two works which epitomize Romanticism: Max Bruch’s ever-popular Violin Concerto, with Joshua Bell playing the solo, and Mahler’s own Sixth Symphony, the so-called ‘tragic’ symphony which is imbued with the spirit of decay and death. The orchestra is conducted by Semyon Bychkov.
