Filarmonica della Scala-Daniel Barenboim

Works by Beethoven, Berlioz

Daniel Barenboim, Maestro Scaligero of the Filarmonica della Scala in Milan, tackles the emergence and rise of Romanticism in early 19th-century Central Europe music in his dual role as pianist and conductor. The transcendental Piano concerto No. 3 that set its seal on Beethoven’s (1770-1827) first mature period as the composer turned thirty is followed by the Symphonie fantastique, which Hector Berlioz composed at the age of twenty seven. An intensely innovative work, the Symphonie was to leave its mark on the art of orchestration and put programmatic music in a central position on the musical map.
