Fiona Shaw

The Rime of the Ancient Mariner
by Samuel Taylor Coleridge

Fiona Shaw earned our rapturous applause in 2012 when she performed in the world premiere of the Rime of the Ancient Mariner at the Little Theatre of Ancient Epidaurus. Now this fine actress is returning with the production, which has in the meantime travelled to London and New York, in its final form.
Coleridge (1772-1834), a key figure in English Romanticism, combined a poetic imagination and fecund creativity with a critical genius. Rejecting the literary conventions of his era, he emerges as a true forerunner of Modernism. In this epic poem, the hero’s adventures in the Antarctic symbolize Man’s wandering through the world in search of meaning.
