Nikos Portokaloglou in concert
What’s left of the fire
“I found myself at the start of something new and chose to celebrate the fact at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus. I envisage a celebration which embraces the past – every stage along the way to the here and now – but also looks ahead to the future. Most important of all, though, it will reflect the present: the way I see my material today.
“Anyone expecting a pretentious evening with symphony orchestra, posh frocks and tails is in for something of a disappointment. The raw material, as always, will be electric guitars, drums and brass. It’ll be ‘Mediterranean rock’ through and through, to borrow a lyric from an old song of mine.
“And seeing as you can’t have a party without friends, the singers and song-writers who’ve played a key role in my work over the years will be there, too.”
