The Shape of Necessity & Tune In

Lia Haraki, a dynamic force in Cypriot contemporary dance, returns to the Athens Festival as both dancer and choreographer to confirm her talents to us once again. In her performance of the solo Tune In, she allows herself to be carried off on a wave of pulsing beats, her movements drawn from sources as diverse as primal rituals and the contemporary clubbing scene. And in her duet, The Shape of Necessity, minimalist repetitive forms are the overarching motif in a relationship between a man and woman. Two naked bodies interact and coordinate with each other in unique ways that evoke the archetypal couple, without being provocative in the slightest.
