Post-dance: The Book

Launch and free distribution of edited volume on contemporary dance trends

“Post-dance” is the title of a conference organized by André Lepecki (dance theorist), Danjel Andersson (artistic director of the MDT), and Gabriel Smeets (director of the Cullberg Ballet, Stockholm). The conference was held at the MDT theatre, in Stockholm, in October 2015. It came as a result of an ongoing quest about current trends and tendencies in the fields of dance and choreography. “Post-dance” is not an existing term or a borrowed concept; rather, it serves as a container. The rationale behind it was to keep the term open-ended and inclusive, encompassing diverse concepts and content. In lieu of this term being given a specific definition, a number of thinkers, makers, writers, curators, and experts from the fields of dance and choreography were invited to invest the container with possible meaning, keeping it open and urgent.

Three of the conference attendees, choreographer Mette Edvardsen, choreographer and theoretician Mårten Spångberg and Danjel Andersson have served as a temporary editorial board, inviting thinkers to suggest new meanings of this term. This edited volume of essays contains texts which originated in the form of conference lectures, as well as essays written specifically for this volume.
