YELP danceco. - Μariela Nestora

‘Tis this, no other, but this

The title –with its affirming certainty– is a humorous response to our current times of uncertainty and ongoing challenges.
The work unfolds in a strange ‘garden’ in which three dancers—Ioanna Apostolou, Nikoleta Karmiri and Vitoria Kotsalou—coexist with Betina Panagiotara (a dance theorist), Anna Pangalou (voice artist) and Christina Katsari (visual artist).
We are in an interim zone, somewhere between the end and the beginning, the emergent and the established. It is no longer sufficient to be in the individual ‘I’ nor the collective ‘we’. Everything coexists, the old and the potentially new, the urgent and the perpetually fragile. In this landscape several everyday objects are also present in their associative potentiality, conjuring up notions of nature, completeness and observation.

This choreography happens in a shared space but at different ‘times’. The fragmentation of a time continuum into finite moments, creates different timeframes for each one- attempting at engaging with and reconsidering: the present, synchronicity and nothingness.

The audience is invited to enter a state of mind of experiencing and feeling rather than understanding. Everything happens as for it is. Perceptions shift continuously leading to a ‘topos’ which is familiar and unfamiliar at the same time. This work deals with the materials that build our shared present: the unexpected, the disordered, the loss of meaning, the immaterial, the urgent.
Hence the ironic title in this time of vagueness, ‘Tis this, no other but this.

We would like to thank the Isadora & Raymond Duncan Dance Research Centre for its support during the research and development stages of this project.

On 8/7, the performance will be followed by a discussion with the audience.
