The event Dialogues, part of the Educating audiences in ancient drama programme, is completed on Monday, May 27 at the Vouleftikon Hall in Nafplio, with Konstantinos Markoulakis as the guest speaker. Markoulakis will direct a production of Sophocles’ Oedipus Rex at the Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus on 12 & 12 July 2019.
The director will give a lecture entitled “The riddle of Oedipus.” Participants will have the opportunity to discuss with the director about the enigmatic quality of Sophocles’ tragedy and how ancient drama is represented on stage.
This year’s Educating Audiences in Ancient Drama programme is inspired by the theme Reinventing ancient drama on the contemporary stage and includes a number of experiential workshops for students, teacher and adults living in Argolis, as well as visitors from around the world. The programme is run by experienced theatre educators and researchers, directors and theatre artists, under the supervision of and in collaboration in with Athens & Epidaurus Festival and the Theatre Studies Department, Faculty of Fine Arts, University of the Peloponnese. Coordinated by Georgina Kakoudaki, director and co-curator of educational programmes for Athens & Epidaurus Festival; Christina Zoniou, who teaches acting at the Theatre Studies Department, and Angeliki Tsakona, theatre educator and researcher, in charge of the Creative Children in Epidaurus workshop.
