This year’s Odeon of Herodes Atticus programme comes to a close with a tribute to the work of Ludwig van Beethoven.
Although this year’s unexpectedly disruptive pandemic stalled all worldwide celebrations for the 250 years since Beethoven’s birth, the Athens State Orchestra, under the baton of its distinguished conductor and artistic director Stefanos Tsialis, will emphatically remind us of this major anniversary, presenting two works of the major German classical composer.
The performed works were chosen on the basis of their artistic value and themes. In The Creatures of Prometheus, Prometheus embodies ideas and concepts of the composer regarding the endless struggle for good, a message at once timely and crucial. Symphony No. 7, one of Beethoven’s best-known works, stands out for the melodic Allegretto of the second movement. Dmitri Shostakovich’s Concerto in C minor for Piano, Trumpet, and String Orchestra, Op. 35 will also be presented.
