The educational department of the Athens & Epidaurus Festival will participate in the 1st Meeting of Young Artists of Southeast Europe – “Ancient Drama and Politics,” organised by the National Theatre of Northern Greece as part of the Network of Ancient Drama of the Hellenic Ministry of Culture. Theatre educator, director, and Educational Programmes co-curator of Athens & Epidaurus Festival, Georgina Kakoudaki, will deliver a lecture, entitled: “New institutions on ancient paths: Themes, goals and plans for the future. The case of the Epidaurus Lyceum of the Athens & Epidaurus Festival and the International Network of Ancient Drama of the Ministry of Culture.”

The Meeting is part of a three-year programme, aiming to link the invaluable heritage of ancient Greek drama with contemporary art and to motivate young artists from Greece and Southeast Europe to work on ancient theatre texts, highlighting new perspectives and interconnections with the contemporary social and political reality.

Focusing on the educational nature of the activities and aiming to create a framework for dialogue that will provide stimuli and promote interaction among artists from diverse cultural backgrounds, the Meeting includes a series of workshops, masterclasses, and lectures as well as performances by young artists. At the same time, open presentations and discussions with the public are scheduled.

The 1st Meeting of Young Artists of Southeast Europe – “Ancient Drama and Politics” will be held between 22 and 29 September.
