RootlessRoot

RootlessRoot Company was founded by Linda Kapetanea and Jozef Fruček in 2006 in Athens. It was formed out of their need to develop their artistic language, which is defined as primal and raw. RootlessRoot is their artistic vehicle, hosting their practical philosophy, helping them to discover their capacities and fulfill their desire to dive into the depths of the human being. Their works – solos, installations, medium and large-scale performances – have been presented in 21 countries around the world. They have worked with Akram Khan, on his dance solo DESH, Staatsteater Kassel Dance Company, DOT504, Helsinki Dance Company, and many other companies and institutions. They made their debut at the 2007 Athens & Epidaurus Festival with Sudden Showers of Silence, while in 2014 they presented W-Memorabilia. This year they will be presenting When the Dogs Assailed Their Masters.
Their works Eyes in the Colors of the Rain (2011), Kireru (2012) and Europium (2015) have been co-produced and hosted by the Onassis Cultural Centre, Athens, the company’s touring supporter. Since 2006 they have been developing the Fighting Monkey Practice, with a focus on the basic principles of human motion and development. They have been travelling around the globe to teach the FM Practice.
Workshop Fighting Monkey
This is a seminar for all those who wish to explore the capabilities of their body and their potential for growth, not only as performers but also as individuals. There are no prerequisites for participation.
The seminar will introduce the basic concepts of Fighting Monkey Practice with a focus on Earthquake Architecture.
Fighting Monkey Practice has been developed over the last twelve years by the members of RootlessRoot, Linda Kapetanea and Jozef Fruček. It is an ongoing research on the fundamental principles of human motion and their relation to human development.
Earthquake Architecture refers to the structure of human body and how this structure can develop in response to the disasters of life. It is based on Movement Situations designed to test the validity of our knowledge about things we think we know, and to enhance our behavioural adaptability, the way in which we respond to the unpredictable and the unknown.
This seminar aims to expose participants to diversity, pressure and difficulty, enabling them to build a body structure that is strong and flexible, yet soft and open to information and possibilities.
