Please find below answers to the most frequently asked questions about the Epidaurus Lyceum.
I’m thinking of applying to the programme. Is Epidaurus Lyceum the right programme for me? (participation prerequisites and selection process)
The online individual and group application forms are open throughout the year. Each year, in February, announcements regarding the Epidaurus Lyceum programme and the application process are made to the media and educational and artistic institutions in Greece and abroad.
The application deadline is announced at the Athens and Epidaurus Festival and Epidaurus Lyceum website and their social media as well as online and print media.
Epidaurus Lyceum is addressed to drama school, Theatre Academy and professional dance school students as well as students of university departments studying acting, dance or performance (at an undergraduate or postgraduate level) and to young actors and dancers from all around the world.
Applicants are expected to fulfill those criteria that allow them to participate in the workshops, and have been set by the workshop teachers.
During the selection process the following abilities can be positively taken into consideration:
- Understanding and communicating in the English language, (with the relevant accredited documentation proof).
- Former participation in activities related to physical theatre, dance and sports.
- Music and/or musical instrument knowledge.
- Professional experience in theatre or dance groups, music groups, choirs, etc.
- Achievements and distinctions during their studies
- Studies related to ancient drama and its texts (philology, theatre studies, humanities and social sciences studies).
The Epidaurus Lyceum student selection process takes place in two stages:
Stage 1: Preliminary student selection through the evaluation of the participation prerequisites as they are presented in the individual or group application form.
Stage 2: Final student selection based on documentation sent as they were requested by the Studies Committee. For example:
- School or university certificate of attendance
- Recommendation letter by a teacher/ department of studies
- Student academic record in courses related to ancient drama, performance, applied theatre

The Studies Committee’s decision is binding on its validity against all and can’t revoked, except for a great reason.
The student selection process is conducted on the basis of the criteria mentioned above, it is unconditional and can not be challenged by an objection or other similar non-judicial process.
After submitting an application
Applicants will be notified about the outcome of their application with a message to the email address they have stated in their application form. For any other relevant questions applicants can contact the Epidaurus Lyceum team in the following address: lyceumepidaurus@greekfestival.gr
Important factors that are taken under consideration by the Studies Committee, during the selection process, are: a) a balance of the male/female ratio wherever that can be achieved, b) a commonly shared level of body training and studies by each workshop’s students, c) the practical workshop student personal choices and wishes, d) the participation standards that visiting teacher have set.

Preparing for my trip to Greece
Lygourio (Epidaurus) is approximately a two-and-a-half-hour drive from Athens. The programme’s students can travel to Lygourio with KTEL of Argolida (regional bus company) while depending on the number of students who want to travel from Athens to Lygourio (Epidaurus) by bus, they can be facilitated by charter bus from Athens with a similar transportation cost to that of KTEL of Argolida. A similar facilitation may be provided and on the last day of the programme for the transportation of students interested from Lygourio (Epidaurus) to Athens.
Epidaurus Lyceum students can be notified via email by the Lyceum team about their accommodation details during the programme. Depending on the first day’s itinerary, students can enroll to the summer school and then check – in at their hotel rooms.
Epidaurus Lyceum students are recommended to budget for about 20 – 25 euros per day, though it is possible to get by on less or to spend more.
The Epidaurus Lyceum daily programme is an intensive 15-day programme that includes educational and artistic activities with a daily duration of 7 to 10 hours. It also includes a free day during which students can programme their own activities in the wider area of Argolida as they wish.
Epidaurus Lyceum workshops can commence as early as 07:00 am with the two – hour daily movement workshop and continue with the main daily five – hour practical workshop. Depending on the day’s itinerary, a lunch for all students may follow shortly after 15:00 or an afternoon break. After 17:00, the programme usually includes an up to two hours lecture or masterclass or a three-hour evening practical workshop. Dinner or the attendance of an evening performance or rehearsal at the ancient theatres of Epidaurus or some other educational or artistic activity may follow. The daily schedule usually concludes after 23:00.
Students usually receive their daily schedule on enrollment day (the first day of the programme) in Lygourio (Epidaurus). This schedule is subject to change according, for example to the weather conditions or other reasons and students are notified for these changes either via bulletin boards, their workshop leaders or the Epidaurus Lyceum team.
Epidaurus Lyceum main practical workshops are attended by groups of 15 to 20 students. Lectures, theoretical workshops, masterclasses and the main movement workshop is attended by all Epidaurus Lyceum students (up to 120 people).
According to the personal data protection regulation the Epidaurus Lyceum team isn’t allowed to share personal data or contact details of the Epidaurus Lyceum students or another third party without their permission.
Epidaurus Lyceum students can contact the Epidaurus Lyceum team via email for any question they may have regarding the teaching staff or any other academic related issue.
Epidaurus Lyceum students will receive via email all the necessary information regarding any reading material they should study before the programme kicks off.
Epidaurus Lyceum students will receive an info email before the programme begins for all the material (ie. clothes, protective gear, etc.) they may need during their study at the summer school.
During my studies at the Epidaurus Lyceum
Epidaurus Lyceum affiliated hotels and restaurants in the area have an open wi – fi network that Epidaurus Lyceum students may use at their leisure.
Participants can find organized canteen and toilet facilities at the Epidaurus Lyceum High School where a number of the programme’s activities take place. Organized toilet facilities can also be found near the Epidaurus theatres and the Ancient Stadium of Epidaurus.
Epidaurus Lyceum students can’t change the main practical workshop they attend during their studies at the programme. Students are assigned to the workshops taking into consideration the group needs (for example, a balanced number of male and female participants, a similar level of knowledge and physical abilities of participants, the criteria set by the workshop teachers, etc.)
Attending the programme, certificate of participation, ECTS credits
All activities that are included in the daily itinerary of the summer school which students receive on their first day, are of obligatory attendance (unless otherwise stated in the programme). If for, whatever reason, a student can’t attend an activity they should inform the group leader of the practical workshop, their teacher as well as the Epidaurus Lyceum team.
All students who have successfully attended all Epidaurus Lyceum activities, receive a printed certificate of attendance at the Epidaurus Lyceum on the last day of the programme.
The programme is accredited by the University of Peloponnese with ECTS academic credits. These credits can be transferred through modulation with the European Transfer System of Academic Credits and a correspondence of the hours taught with 5 ECTS credits, after an educational agreement is made between the educational institutions where the students of the school come from with the University of Peloponnese. Students should verify in advance that their school recognizes these academic credits.
Students interested in acquiring ECTS credits can contact the Epidaurus Lyceum team and the University of Peloponnese academic supervisor for the Epidaurus Lyceum programme before the programme starts.
