The Rolex Arts Festival: Celebrating 20 Years of Mentoring” is a week-long event taking place on 26–28 May, 2023 in multiple venues across Athens to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Rolex Mentor and Protégé Arts Initiative.
The festival marks the first time that Rolex has taken its mentoring programme to the Greek capital, along with dozens of the world’s most talented artists.
A special pre-festival programme, including workshops, talks and dedicated to the people of Athens and organized to engage local artists, arts professionals and young people, will be offered from 22–25 May.

THEATRE Workshop:
The Stories of People
The workshops are for the inhabitants of Athens, not professionally connected with the theatre. The work will be done in four groups of four people. The starting point for each group will be a video recorded on a street corner in four different districts of Athens. How far can we go with our imagination if we limit the observation area as much as possible? Starting with a video recording the participants of the workshop will develop performative stories together about places and their inhabitants.
The theatre often becomes a privileged place, but the street belongs to everyone. These workshops will give the inhabitants of Athens, who are not professional theatre-makers, the opportunity to create a story in their own terms.
Michał Borczuch, Theatre protégé 2012 – 2013)
Theatre and Film
Since 2005, Michał Borczuch has directed 25 plays in Poland and at international venues. These have included Apocalypse (Nowy Theatre Warsaw), posing quetions about how Pier Paolo Pasolini and Oriana Fallaci defined European identity; My Struggle (TR Warszawa), an adaptation of Karl Knausgard’s immense novel; and productions (such as Preciado’s An apartment on Uranus, Nowy Theater Warsaw) focusing on the queer community. His most recent international production, Lost Lost Lost, presented at Klaipedos Drama Theatre in Lithuania in 2022, was inspired by the life and work of Jonas Meka, the Lithuanian-born master of American avant-garde film.
Borczuch was mentored by Patrice Chéreau in 2012–2013.

Donmar Shakespeare Trilogy
Presentation by Phyllida Lloyd with filmed footage of the all-female Donmar Shakespeare Trilogy set in prison which is focused entirely on representation of women and diverse communities. Journalist Stella Charami will close the presentation and open the floor to the public for a question-and-answer session.

Theatre
British theatre, film and opera director Phyllida Lloyd’s groundbreaking all-female Shakespeare Trilogy — Julius Caesar, Henry IV and The Tempest — was described by The Observer as “one of the most important theatrical events of the past 20 years”. She is also known for the stage and film versions of the musical Mamma Mia! (1999, 2008) and the Margaret Thatcher biopic The Iron Lady (2011) starring Meryl Streep. In 2018, she directed TINA: The Tina Turner Musical on London’s West End, leading to a run on Broadway and in Europe. Lloyd’s award-winning film Herself premiered at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival.

Σκηνοθέτις Θεάτρου και Όπερας & Καλλιτεχνική Διευθύντρια του Φεστιβάλ Αθηνών Επιδαύρου
Η Κατερίνα Ευαγγελάτου είναι διακεκριμένη σκηνοθέτις στον χώρο του θεάτρου και της όπερας. Το 2019 ορίστηκε Καλλιτεχνική Διευθύντρια του Φεστιβάλ Αθηνών
Επιδαύρου και η θητεία της ανανεώθηκε μέχρι το 2025. Είναι η πρώτη γυναίκα και το νεότερο πρόσωπο σε αυτήν τη θέση. Στο πλαίσιο της καλλιτεχνικής διεύθυνσής της, το Φεστιβάλ έχει εστιάσει σε διεθνείς συμπαραγωγές και παγκόσμιες πρεμιέρες, καθώς και σε πρωτοποριακές προσεγγίσεις στο Αρχαίο Δράμα, διευρύνοντας το κοινό του και προσελκύοντας τους νεότερους θεατές.
Έχει σκηνοθετήσει πάνω από 25 παραστάσεις θεάτρου και όπερας σε σημαντικούς πολιτιστικούς οργανισμούς στην Ελλάδα και το εξωτερικό, μεταξύ των οποίων το

Για τις σκηνοθεσίες της έχει διακριθεί επανειλημμένως με σημαντικά βραβεία. Τα παραμύθια του Χόφμαν, όπερα που σκηνοθέτησε στο Perm Opera Theatre το 2015, προτάθηκε για 9 βραβεία “Χρυσή Μάσκα”, το σημαντικότερο βραβείο στο ρωσόφωνο θέατρο, μεταξύ των οποίων για τα βραβεία στις κατηγορίες Καλύτερη
Παράσταση Όπερας και Καλύτερη Σκηνοθεσία.
Η Ευαγγελάτου είναι σταθερά δραστήρια και στη θεατρική εκπαίδευση με έμφαση στο Αρχαίο Δράμα, ενώ έχει κληθεί να διδάξει σε υψηλού κύρους ιδρύματα τόσο στην Ελλάδα όσο και στο εξωτερικό (Πανεπιστήμιο της Νέας Υόρκης, Εθνικό και Καποδιστριακό Πανεπιστήμιο Αθηνών, Εθνικό Θέατρο κ.ά.).
