Read the official announcement of the National Theatre of Greece:
“The premiere of Bost’s Medea, directed by Yannis Kalavrianos, a National Theatre of Greece production, will not be held on Friday, July 8, at the Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus due to a work stoppage announced by the National Theatre of Greece Union and the Hellenic Actors Union, in effect between 20:00 and 24:00, demanding a re-adjustment of employees’ daily allowance (per diem) and off-site working payment.
From the very first moment, the National Theatre of Greece supported the employees’ demands for a rise in the off-site working payments, having the support of both the Board of Directors and the Artistic Director Yannis Moschos. The leadership of the Ministry of Culture and Sports reacted positively, very quickly, explicitly – and publicly – committing themselves to satisfying this demand and even securing a retroactive effect for these payments starting on July 1st. Nevertheless, the National Theatre of Greece Union and the Hellenic Actors Union, until the very last moment, insisted on the work stoppage on the premiere day of Medea, even though their demands had already been satisfied.
We apologize to the audience for this inconvenience, for which the National Theatre of Greece cannot be held accountable, having tried to come up with a solution until the very last moment. Audience members who had purchased tickets will be refunded. Those who purchased their tickets over the phone or online will be automatically refunded via the card they used for purchasing their tickets. For audience members who purchased their tickets at the Athens Epidaurus Festival box office, either with cards or cash, refunding will take place at the Athens Epidaurus Festival box office, where they will have to produce their tickets. For tickets purchased in cash at a physical point of sale, the money will be refunded to audience members via a bank deposit.
