Marriage, always a sticky affair, is little more than a necessary evil to Gogol’s heroes as they are embroiled in a game of misunderstandings by a sly matchmaker and a jaded friend. And what about Eros? How will the winged god treat the reluctant suitor and the naïve bride?
A comedy with grotesque elements, Marriage (1842) satirises the ethos of the petit-bourgeois in 19th century Tsarist Russia. Giannis Bezos, who has translated and directed the play, stars alongside Natalia Tsaliki, Christos Loulis and other talented actors.
